Improving Roberts Field & Friendship Park

A 2017 Master Plan of new park and playground improvements, was created through a community-driven process with input from residents, park users and organizational stakeholders.  A process recap can be found here,  and the completed Master Plan documents are available here:

The first of the recommended Master Plan improvements is a new inclusive designed Friendship Park playground that was opened Summer 2018, replacing aged and unsafe equipment.  The new Friendship Park playground allows children of all abilities to play together, and received up to $450k in Community Preservation Funds at the 2017 Chelmsford Fall Town Meeting.  Read more in this Chelmsford Independent article.  The nonprofit group Friends of Roberts Field was charged with fundraising to offset the draw of Town funds.  The Roberts Field Advisory Committee is working with the Chelmsford Department of Public Works to rebuild and improve Friendship Park and Roberts Field. In 2021, the Chelmsford DPW is overseeing the installation of two new baseball fields, a multi-use soccer/lacrosse field, walking track and exercise circuit.  Funding for the second phase of improvements was provided by Community Preservation Funds (2019 Chelmsford Fall Town Meeting) and a Massachusetts state grant.  Please send us an email or attend a Committee meeting to learn more.
